Charity (Zakat/Sadqa)

Zakat (that which purifies) is a mandatory charitable contribution and is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is an obligation for all Muslims who meet the necessary criteria of wealth. As per Quranic ranking, it is next after Prayer (Salah/Namaz) in importance.

Sadqa or Sadaqah or Sadaka (righteousness) is a voluntary charitable contribution. It has been mentioned thirteen times in the Qur'an and has been emphasized in various Hadith.
