[Completed] – Request for Donations for Purchasing an Iron Rod Cutter for a Disabled Mason in Multan

Update (16-09-20): The mason has purchased a used iron rod cutter for Rs 12,000. He used Rs 5,000 to fix the cracks in the wall of his room. He is using the remaining Rs 8,000 in raising the floor of his room to avoid rainwater from coming in. At the moment, the floor of the room is lower than the surrounding area and thus rainwater drains into his room.

He has also started selling corn and snacks on a rented cart. The rent of the cart is Rs 800 per month. He is able to make a sale of around Rs 1,000 every day and out of that, he is able to save around Rs 250 per day. JazakAllah khair for your contributions.

This family comprises of a disabled husband, a wife who works as a housemaid and five children. They live in a single room. My father knows this family for the past 15+ years. This family has been supported previously as part of Buying Wheat for a Disabled Laborer’s Family in Multan project and it is being supported monthly a part of the Monthly Donation for 2 Needy Families project. This mason had fallen from the roof while working on a construction site and sustained a backbone injury a few years ago. That had affected his left leg and thus he does not get work properly anymore.

He is in debt of Rs 40,000 and due to recent rains in Multan, the walls of the room got cracked. Instead of donating more money to this family, I recommended my father to check on how the disabled mason can earn better at his own. He has expertise in iron rods cutting, used in the construction of the roofs. He has requested to buy him an iron rod cutter, which costs around Rs 25,000 (SAR 568) so that he can get work more easily. He is eligible for Zakat.
