Fasting (Sawm/Rozah) and The Month of Ramadan
Fasting or Sawm or Rōzah (to abstain) in Islam involves abstaining from all bodily pleasures from Fajr (dawn) to Magrib (sunset). It helps Muslims develop self-control, gain a better understanding of Allah's gifts and greater compassion towards the deprived.
Ramadan also known as Ramadhan, Ramazan or Ramzan is the ninth month of the Hijri Calendar and the month of fasting for Muslims all over the globe. Fasting in Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars in Islam and an obligatory religious duty for every Muslim.
Quran mentions in Chapter 2, Verse 185: "The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful."
